I took a portrait class at the Newark Museum on Sat. to better learn skin tones. I was quite impressed with my results. My style is usually more graphic...using outlines. I didn't think I could paint more modeled. I think the biggest revelation was when the teaching artist told me not to "draw" with my paintbrush but lay in the shapes w/ color. Below are my attempts.
I think I've finished my giant eye painting. I had different plans for the background, but this is what came out...I didn't want to overpower the eye. I like the colors. Intense.
I also started Malik's portrait- sketched it out. I have pretty cool plans for this one... I drove up to school today...to drop off some art stuff & pick up all the silk screens I need to powerwash. Uhg. Lots of work...I have about 20 screens to clean. I've really enjoyed taking the Path into NYC for my Digital Design class at SVA. The class is exactly what I wanted to learn...both Illustrator & Photoshop. For the class final, we have to do 2 projects, both self portraits. The one below is my Illustrator project. Can you tell I'm a painter by nature?
Yesterday I tried out my design using spray paint. I met up with some of my 8th grade graduates in Jersey City to practice. Check out pics below... go to: www.ms4urbanart.weebly.com
