Finally finished Jose's portrait (my "school son" as I call him). It sat all yr because I didn't want to think about the end of the yr. I'm gonna miss you kid!
It's hard to find time, but I started playing around in my sketchbook. I want to start a series of paintings & mixed media on the subject of beauty...Beauty is truely in the eye of the beholder...I'm starting to gather inspiration to what I see as beautiful. I'm excited to start executing my vision.
Wow, summer's almost here...I have so many things I'd like to do once school lets out. I've signed up to take a Digital Design class at the School of Visual Arts in Manhattan, which starts this upcoming week. I'm excited to better learn Photoshop & Illustrator for my own art and to teach my students. I'm also hoping to take some other painting & drawing classes as well. I'm also going to challenge myself to get good at airbrushing...I'm determined! And I plan to work on putting together a graffiti design curriculum using all mediums for the 2011-2012 school yr.
Over this past yr. I've found that my students really want to learn how to draw lettering, figures, characters, etc, but don't have the basics. Even in 8th grade many don't know how to blend colors effectively, and have difficulty painting in designs. My challenge will be to create lessons that cover the basics yet capture their interest. Good thing I like these kinds of challenges! I will also be presenting 2 graffiti / urban art workshops at the Art Educators of NJ conference in October. I want to share my passion for what I'm doing in Jersey City. Gotta keep spreading the love... |
