Paper Bead Making Workshop

This workshop was conducted at Jersey City Middle School #4 with the Artistically Talented Students. Kristen Marino worked in conjunction with art teacher, Stephanie Romano over a period of 2 weeks. The project was based on the paper bead making article by Kelli Perkins in Cloth, Paper, Scissors magazine. Students created hand-made beads by rolling magazine strips and applying layers of gel medium, embossing powders, Utee, glitter & fibers. The beads were then arranged in a square composition on chipboard to create a unique pin.
Materials included glossy magazine pages, gel medium, embossing powders, ultra-thick UTEE, fibers, glitter & a heat gun. The workshop was linked to Artisians in Ghana who make handmade glass beads from recycled glass, resources from the Newark Museum.
